(I am forwarding Christian's missive to the Nordskogen list. Partially cause I think it sounds like a cool event, and partially cause I want to go and I would need to find people to ride with me to justify the trip. If you are interested contact me privately. I have a van and can transport 6.)

Unto my friends in Nordskogen, come greetings and felicitations from Christian d'Hiver, your servant.

I know, I know. Your heart is breaking, and you don't know what to do.

"I wish there were a nearby event," I hear you cry, "On the weekend of April 5th!"

And people, there is. The good people of Caer Anterth Mawr point to the lectures by Robin Netheril and say, "Ooh. Look. Costuming."

But I know. Oh yes, I know. Your soul is aching, and you know not where to turn.

"I wish there were an event, close-by," you wail upon the wind. "On some topic other than costuming. 'Cause that's just not my thing."

Well, good friends, your salvation, it is at hand. In the Shire of Shadowdale, that is, Iowa City, on that very weekend, we are having an event in honor of the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci. And you're invited.

There will be three A&S challenges: costume accessories, siege engines (in person or in design), and drawing or painting. All those who enter any of these challenges will receive FREE lunch and the
opportunity to meet with the other entrants and discuss their projects.

You gasp!! But there's more.

There will be hours and hours of fighting. (Rapier, you ask? Pshaw. This is Calontir.) There will be workshops in greatsword and bastard sword.

You shudder in anticipation!! (Well, unless you're a fencer. Then, I guess, you kind of sigh. But at the same time, you can join us in the shuddering, too.) But there's more.

There will be a terrific feast, on a Florentine theme. And probably some archery if its warm enough. And a merchant!! Yes, indeed. And Their Majesties Calontir, along with a whole bunch of nervous locals who haven't had Royalty at an event in years.

Come on down, folks. http://www.uiowa.edu/~shadowda/LeoEvent.htm
