classical / early music weekend
Saturday-Sunday: St. Paul's going medieval this
weekend. And Renaissance and Baroque, too. In
something of a mini-version of the massive Boston
Early Music Festival, concerts and workshops of the
old-time ilk will dot the city. The centerpiece is the
Schubert Club's "Early Music Day" (9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday at Landmark Center), which brings the very
old to the very young by teaching them vintage dances
and how to play the old instruments. And two of the
best at those instruments, Dutch recorder virtuoso
Marion Verbruggen and Baroque bassoonist Michael
McCraw, show off their talents at a 3 p.m. Sunday
recital at Sundin Music Hall.
The Rose Ensemble presents traditional music of
Judaism, Christianity and Islam at Macalester Plymouth
United Church (8 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday), and
soprano Maria Jette joins the Lyra Baroque Orchestra
for Telemann's Baroque cantata, "Ino," at Sundin Music
Hall. (8 p.m. Saturday). $40-$10; 651-292-3268 or
schubert.org.
