Reminder: The deadline for submissions to the April issue of _The Crystal Quill_ is NOON on this Saturday, March 24.
The theme for the April issue of _The Crystal Quill_ is a really fun one: legendary Beasts, fantastical objects and whimsical tales. This is the time to bring out your favorite creatures and quirks of your culture of focus.
An example from Samia (who suggested this topic) include the understandably rare Egyptian handkerchief woven from the down of phoenix feathers. It was fire-proof and was tossed into the cook fire to get it clean. Another example from Samia are the giant bats that would fly out of cinnamon trees to blind would-be harvesters -- which is why cinnamon is so expensive, you see.
What tall tales were in existence in your time and place?
What I'm looking for:
- articles
- suggested resources for further reading (Internet or hardcopy)
- artwork! (sketches and cartoons are great)
- announcements (birthdays, anniversaries, archaeology finds,
"classifieds," you name it)
Please read the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES found on the _Crystal Quill_ page of the Nordskogen Web site, www.nordskogen.northshield.org/quill.html. THESE ARE IMPORTANT!
Also consider starting an article now one on of the other upcoming themes:
- May 07 -- foodstuffs and food preservation (What kinds of foodstuffs did folks eat in your time/place/culture? How did they preserve the food for storage and later consumption? In what seasons were you likely to eat various foods, and in what state -- i.e. fresh or preserved?)
- Jun 07 -- wood, metal, bone and leather (What products did your personas culture make from these materials? What tools and techniques were used? What project are you working on? What have you made before? What resources and tips do you have for others working in these media or on similar projects?)
This is YOUR newsletter. Send me cool stuff!
Yours in Service,
