If you haven't been at meetings the last two weeks, you may not have heard yet that Master Danr, Ilya, and I will be competing in this year's snow sculpture competition held as part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

I have been asked to post the details here. So here you go. :o)

The goal is to reduce an eight-foot cube of snow into something resembling art. The sculpting starts Friday, January 26th at 9:00am. Sculptors can work around the clock, if they wish (we'll certainly be pulling 12-hour days, at least). Sculpting stops at 12:00pm on Sunday the 28th and judging takes place at 1:00pm. There is a populace vote! Be there by noon on Sunday if you want to vote.

The basic rules for competitors are: three-person teams only; no power tools allowed; only the snow you're given can be used; no one who isn't on your team can touch your snow. It's exhausting and a hellacious amount of fun.

And no, this is not the ice carving -- this is the snow sculpting. Big difference. :o)

This year's competition will take place on Harriet Island. Details are here:

Come bring us hot treats throughout the weekend and cheer us on while marveling at the wonderful sculptures. If you come for the judging, you can see the Vulcans up close and personal! :o)
