Greetings,
A few weeks ago, 9 people came out to our place to help us split the logs
into planks (step 1). We tried to use a chainweekend and found that splitting
the logs with wedges was actually faster!

This coming weekend on Saturday, Feb 10, I will be roughing the outline (step 2)
of the keelsons (the bow and stern) of the faering as well as showing interested
parties the various blue prints that I have collected. The plan is to start
around 10:00, break for a pot luck lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 and look over some
plans, then back outside from 1:00 to 3:00. My hope is to get the keelsons
roughed out sufficently to bring into house and start using the hatchet and adz
to carve in the planking lines (step 3). I hope to finish the keelsons sometime
this coming spring/summer.

At some later date, I hope to have a planning party. We have several good
videos which I have borrowed and/or purchased which we will view in part or
whole before proceeding with step 4, 5, and, 6: assemble the building frame to
hold the construction, laying keel, and planking the sides, respectively. My
hope is to have the building frame done before the snow flies next winter and
maybe, maybe...laying the keel. This is a loonnnnnnnggggg term project, so
speed is not required.

If you plan on coming out this Saturday, let me know so I can stock enough beer
and soda...Beer and sharp tools....hmmmmmmm....sure!....why not.....We have
lots of extra toes! If you have an adz, hatchet, axe or large hand saw, bring it
along!

Danr
