Mary doesn't play with the SCA at all now.  She has been published in some of 
the Creative Anachronists, she did the Deere Abby stories.  Her first book 
was Murder at the War written in 1987(reprinted in paperback as Knight's Fall).  
It took place at Pennsic, and many of the tales and people are/were real or 
compilations of real stories and people.  In fact if you can get your hands on 
the original hardback the drawing on the cover is fairly recognisable (and 
shows again how far we have come in armouring).
