[Nordskogen] Baronial order

Yup, although my scroll only says "for having shed rivers of blood in
Nordskogen" -- making no explicit mention of whose blood or that it be in
service to the Barony :)

The name conflicted with the Shire of Riviere de Sang (in Meridies, IIRC).
And apparently even though the group has dissolved, the Kingdom wanted to
hang onto it for a possible award name, oddly enough.

Twelfth Night has often been a handy time to do this, esp. when baronial
courts used to be the only ones at the event. Don't know if that has been
deliberate since us; as Dame Bridget commented, we didn't necessarily intend
to make that a custom.

--Caradoc
whose SCA career is approaching middle age ...

Her Excellency spake:
>
>It was to honor an individual who had "shed rivers of blood" in service to
>the barony. Because the name conflicted with somewhere else, it was
>eventually changed to, and registered as "Order of the Rouge Bend" (so at
>least we got to keep the initials and the device).
>
>Bridget -- who wasn't in the SCA yet at that point, but knows the back
>story.

In response to Samia:

OK, I want credit for refraining from simply answering "Me. What else?".
;)

And "Du" is supposed to be capitalized; it ain't French for "of the" (de +
le = du), it are Welsh for "black", as in the lions in my arms.
