A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Crusades...I had an incredibly fun
time on a beautiful long weekend in Castel Rouge with friends, old and new.
The weather was incredible. The hospitality inviting. The food plentiful and
wonderful. And the chance to sit and talk with friends and relax priceless.
In a setting by the largest lake within the borders of southern Canada, on
three days with nary a cloud in the sky, stars that bombarded the senses,
and a nice showing of the Aurora Borealis, about a hundred of us came
together to share a time that will not soon be forgotten if only because it
relaxed us so much. From the archery, which is always in abundance in Castel
Rouge, to the fighting, to classes and the making of a glass furnace in a
field from local clay, to the sight of fire arrows let loose over Lake
Winnipeg, to being able to witness (and be a part of) the first Peerages
ever bestowed in this venerable Barony, it was a time that I loved greatly
and will always cherish.

Too many to thank for their hospitality here but I really want to say that I
always feel like I'm going home when I go to Castel Rouge. This isn't to say
that I didn't miss being a part of Autumn Rose or Revel in the Vale or even
MKAoD (2 of which I was able to attend last year) but y'know, I think I will
try harder in the next year or three to attend the Gimli event than I have
in the past.
