Lecturer: Jimmy Schryver

Although much of the popular image of the Crusades focuses on battles, 
there was another more peaceful aspect to these movements of a 
significant number of people to the Latin East. Many of those who took 
part in the Crusades returned home. Others, however, stayed and began a 
new life in a new land. The archaeology that they have left behind tells 
an interesting story about the ways in which they adapted (or did not 
adapt) to their new surroundings.

Jimmy Schryver graduated with a Ph.D. in Medieval Studies from Cornell 
University in May 2005. He is now Assistant Professor of Art History at 
the University of Minnesota, Morris. His research interests include the 
archaeology of the medieval Mediterranean and the Crusader States as 
well as that of the North Atlantic World.

Free and open to the public. This lecture is presented by the 
Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Archaeological Institute of 
America and its local affiliate.
