Then, perhaps different words could be employed.

Perhaps some sort of shocking behaviour like being attentive and courteous 
to all instead of huddling in your own separate group and using body 
language that indicate approachability.

Perhaps a 'personage' of 'rank' could 'adopt' a new person and mentor them 
for a year as well, giving them assistance beyond the great newcomer class 
series begun by the Lady Bridget.
