Absolutely good points and I realize that my opinion is colored by my own focus in doing things in an authentic way.

I think that our current Folk Moots demonstrate that there are many ways to play in SCA and I would not expect people to follow the guidelines as I proposed at them. But a Folk Moot is, in my opinion, a very different thing than a demo. A demo, to me, is a chance to display the "educational" aspect of the SCA. A demo, to me, is a chance to show people that we are more than a bunch of "wierdos in costume" (my words).

It is my opinion that showing up in period kit, demonstrating period activities, with period tools would not turn someone off to the SCA, in fact it may be the catalist they need to decide that this organization is for them. I don't think these are bad goals to shoot for. I would never suggest that someone could not come to a demo, nor turn it into "only these approved people can come" kind of event. I was actually hoping that the guidelines I proposed would help more people understand what a demo involves and could be better prepared.

There are a lot of history organizations that have extremely specific requirements for participants and while I am not proposing that we adopt anything of the sort, I did want people to think about what they project when representing the SCA. Caponi has not made any statements that they want us more period. In fact they are very pleased with our presence each year, which is why they continue to ask us back. I really like Caponi and I consider it an event where we can truly shine as an organization and show people in the Twin Cities what we have to offer. Each year I have seen the demo get better and better, but I saw some areas for improvement and felt the need to share.
