[Nordskogen] When Travelling East...

Greetings! Cainnech and I have returned safe and sound. We didn't even get all that wet from the heavy rains and flooding being experienced in the east.
   
  First of all, good news for WW travellers: It looks like the awful road construction on I-94 between here and the site is done! At least, there wasn't any construction on the westbound side, and we didn't see any congestion on the eastbound side. And this was during holiday weekend Saturday mid-day traffic. Hooray!
   
  For Pennsic travellers: I posted earlier that Chicago is BAD right now for road construction and serious traffic congestion. It was so bad that we planned an alternate route back from the east to avoid the area completely.
   
  I'm pleased to report that our alternate route worked very well. While there were stretches of construction here and there, we didn't experience significant delays in any of them. The only delays we experienced were at the toll plaza at the Illinois/Wisconsin border (again, because Illinois is reconstructing all their toll plazas) and around Indianapolis. The delay around Indianapolis was probably a combination of early holiday weekend rush hour, a race weekend, and some rain -- and it wasn't too hideous, anyway. The drive was also prettier and had less traffic overall, in my opinion.
   
  To reverse the directions for Pennsic travellers, we recommend taking I-94 to I-90 to I-39 south into Illinois, picking up I-74 east near Bloomington IL, taking that to I-70 east in Indianapolis IN, following I-70 east to I-76 in Pennsylvania, and picking up I-79 north to Pennsic. Tolls included a brief stretch of Illinois just south of the border ($1.00) and the section of Pennsylvania tollway (about $6.00). Illinois is cash at each plaza; Pennsylvania is take a ticket when you get on and pay with cash when you exit.
   
  We drove about five miles per hour over the limit the entire time, with occasional bouts of ten miles per hour over, and made it from the I-79/I-76 interchange to St. Paul in 15.5 hours -- including a short lunch stop and various gas and rest area stops. I figure you can reach Pennsic with just one additional hour's worth of driving. Not bad!
