Think back to the first SCA event you ever attended. What was wonderful about it? What was disappointing? What do you look back on and laugh about? What about the event made you want to come back for more - or what made you think twice about sticking around?
Everyone has a first event story; share yours in the January issue of _The Crystal Quill_!
Im not looking for multi-page stories here (unless you really want to write one). Feel free to jot down a couple of paragraphs of your most vivid impressions from that very first event. Im really looking for emotional responses rather than a simple description of what happened at the event -- in other words, if a court was held (for example), how did observing the proceedings make you feel?
What I'm looking for in this issue:
- articles (anecdotes are great!)
- suggested resources for further reading (Internet or hardcopy)
- artwork! (sketches and cartoons are great)
- announcements (birthdays, anniversaries, archaeology finds,
"classifieds," you name it)
Deadline for submissions to the January issue is NOON on Saturday, December 23. Avoid the holiday rush and respond right now. Tis the season for nostalgia, after all!
Please read the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES found on the _Crystal Quill_ page of the Nordskogen Web site, www.nordskogen.northshield.org/quill.html. These are important!
Also consider starting an article now one on of the other upcoming themes:
- Feb 07 -- needlework / fiber arts (i.e. weaving, spinning, knitting, embroidery, dyeing... I KNOW we have a strong community in this area. What do you know about needle/fiber arts in period? What recommendations do you have for folks just starting out? What was your most fun experience? Tell us all about it!)
- Mar 07 -- the lives of children in the Middle Ages (Does your persona have a child? Do you have a child persona? What went on in the lives of children of your time period? What was their survival rate? What were they expected to learn and do? And so on...)
Make your Chronicler deliriously happy and become locally famous at the same time -- write an article or draw something today, and send it to nordskogenquill at yahoo.com.
Yours in Service,
- ban-Ollaimh Cinniu ingen Cuthbaid, OL
Chronicler, Barony of Nordskogen
